LUNOS e²60 | Compact Decentralised ERV System

Smaller decentralised “push-pull” units, such as the LUNOS e²60, work on a reversing cycle rather than continuous two-way flow. Each unit has a single fan and a plastic thermal accumulator. During the exhaust phase, warm stale indoor air is blown out through the core, charging it with heat (and some moisture in the case of ERV). After a set period — typically around 70 seconds — the fan reverses direction, drawing in fresh outdoor air. As the air passes back through the warmed core, much of the stored heat is transferred to the incoming supply air. By pairing two units to run in opposite phases, a balanced supply and extract airflow can be achieved across a dwelling, providing effective heat recovery and fresh air without the need for ductwork.

Product Overview

LUNOS decentralised energy recovery ventilation (ERV) systems provide a continuous supply of fresh, filtered air while retaining valuable heat in winter and coolth in summer. Because decentralised systems operate without ductwork, they are significantly easier and less disruptive to install than centralised alternatives, making them ideal for retrofit applications and buildings with limited space.

The e²60 is part of the proven LUNOS e² series and is one of the smallest decentralised heat recovery ventilation units available for residential use. Its compact form factor makes it particularly well suited to apartments, bedrooms, and smaller living spaces where discreet, high-performance ventilation is required.

Compact, Pressure-Optimised Design

Despite its small size, the e²60 is pressure-optimised to maintain a consistent airflow even in challenging conditions. This makes it suitable for installations exposed to high back pressures, such as coastal environments or buildings located at higher altitudes.

The compact design allows the unit to be installed in locations where larger decentralised or centralised systems would not be practical, without compromising ventilation performance.

Intelligent Airflow Control

An optional intelligent control system allows the e²60 to actively compensate for back pressure of up to 20 Pa, ensuring stable and reliable airflow. Airflow performance remains unaffected at rates of up to 40 m³/h, delivering efficient ventilation even as external conditions change.

This intelligent pressure compensation helps maintain consistent indoor air quality while keeping energy consumption exceptionally low.

Ideal Applications

  • Apartments and units
  • Bedrooms and living areas
  • Retrofit projects
  • Coastal or high-altitude locations
  • Homes where ducting is not feasible

Components

Internal Vent with Filter

The internal vent with filter is installed on the inside wall and forms the visible part of the system within the room. It features a slim, modern profile and houses the air filter neatly within the vent. The cover clips on and off for quick and easy filter replacement, and can be snapped shut to prevent draughts in the event the system is switched off.

pbD Heat Exchanger and Reversing EC Motor Fan

The core assembly contains both the heat exchanger and the fan, forming the main functional component of the system. It is installed by sliding the assembly into the PVC pipe located within the wall penetration, allowing straightforward installation and removal for servicing.

The latest pbD heat exchanger is significantly lighter and quieter than the previous ceramic design, while also improving airflow and delivering an efficiency increase of approximately 3 to 5 percent. Air movement is provided by a high-efficiency axial fan driven by an EC motor, which automatically reverses direction depending on whether the system is supplying fresh air or extracting stale air.

White Plastic External Grille

The plastic external grille is installed on the outside wall to protect the wall penetration while providing a clean, unobtrusive external finish. It is fully weatherproof and vermin-proof, and is available in white or black to suit a wide range of exterior finishes.

Black Plastic External Grille

The plastic external grille is installed on the outside wall to protect the wall penetration while providing a clean, unobtrusive external finish. It is fully weatherproof and vermin-proof, and is available in white or black to suit a wide range of exterior finishes.

Smart Comfort Control

The Smart Comfort Control is the premium control option for LUNOS e²60s and is one of two control systems available. It is designed to optimise indoor comfort while protecting the building fabric. With integrated humidity and temperature sensors, it automatically adjusts ventilation to help prevent excess moisture, mould growth, and frost-related issues.

In addition to simple manual control with four ventilation levels, the system offers fully automatic operation, continuously regulating airflow based on indoor conditions. Intelligent functions such as night setback, summer mode, and intensive ventilation allow performance to adapt to daily and seasonal changes while minimising energy use.

The Smart Comfort Control is suitable for installation in living spaces, bedrooms, and high-humidity areas such as bathrooms, and can be used in both new builds and retrofit applications. Its intuitive operation provides reliable, energy-efficient control with minimal user intervention.

Universal Rocker Switch

The Universal Rocker Switch is the simpler of the two control options available for LUNOS e²60s. It provides straightforward manual operation, allowing up to four ventilation levels to be selected using the rocker switches.

A dedicated summer ventilation function is included for use during cooler night-time conditions. In this mode, the reversing interval is extended to approximately one hour, effectively bypassing heat recovery to allow cooler outside air to be introduced more directly.

Mean Well 12 V Transformer

Both controller options, as well as the e²60 core units themselves, require a 12 V power supply. A high-quality Mean Well transformer is supplied to ensure reliable operation and straightforward installation. The transformer is available in a 30 W version, suitable for systems with up to six e²60 cores, and a 60 W version, which supports up to twelve e²60 cores.

150mm Stormwater Pipe

The final component is the 150 mm PVC stormwater pipe, which forms the sleeve for the core assembly. A 162 mm wall penetration is required, into which the pipe fits precisely, allowing the core unit to be installed neatly inside. The standard pipe length supplied is 330 mm, with longer lengths available on request.

Where rough-in work is completed prior to purchasing the units, stormwater pipe can be sourced separately if required. It is important to use stormwater pipe only, as the thicker wall used in sewer pipe reduces the internal diameter and will prevent the core unit from fitting correctly.

LUNOS Has Reinvented the Heat Exchanger

Product Overview

LUNOS continues to set new benchmarks in decentralised residential ventilation with the development of its latest generation heat exchanger. As an innovation leader in the field, LUNOS has re-engineered heat recovery technology to deliver higher efficiency with a significantly lower environmental footprint.

Unlike conventional ceramic heat exchangers, which are energy-intensive to manufacture, the new pbD heat exchanger is produced from an environmentally friendly, fully recyclable polymer material. Manufactured using a patented, injection-moulding process, the heat exchanger features optimised flow geometry and a uniform surface structure. This results in improved airflow characteristics and delivers an efficiency increase of approximately 3 to 5 percent.

Since the launch of the e² series in 2010, LUNOS has consistently driven innovation in decentralised heat recovery ventilation. Today, it is recognised as a global leader in the sector, with more than 500,000 e² units installed worldwide since 2011. These systems have contributed to average heating energy savings of around 20 percent across residential buildings.

The new pbD heat exchanger delivers benefits beyond efficiency alone. It is lighter, quieter, and more powerful than previous designs, achieving a weight reduction of more than 50 percent while reducing energy consumption throughout the manufacturing process by over 70 percent. This approach reflects LUNOS’s commitment not only to high-performance ventilation, but also to sustainable and responsible production.

This new heat exchanger represents the first step in a broader series of innovations planned by LUNOS in decentralised heat recovery technology. Future developments will continue to focus on maximising performance, improving user comfort, and further reducing environmental impact.

Features and Benefits

LUNOS decentralised energy recovery ventilation (ERV) systems supply fresh, filtered air to a building while retaining valuable heat in winter and coolth in summer. Because decentralised systems operate without ductwork, they are typically far simpler and less disruptive to install, making them particularly well suited to retrofits and buildings where space constraints prevent the use of a centralised ducted system.

For new builds, or existing homes with generous roof or floor cavity access, a centralised ventilation system may be a more appropriate solution, offering whole-of-home coverage from a single unit.

Low Operation Noise Due to EC Motor Fan Technology

The reversing EC motors used in the e²60 drive market-leading axial fans designed for exceptionally quiet operation. Housed within a flow-optimised EPP (expanded polypropylene) foam enclosure, the already low-noise EC motors are further acoustically dampened, effectively “silencing” the unit. As a result, the e²60 is among the quietest decentralised ventilation systems in its class.

By design, smaller, lower-power fans generate significantly less noise than the larger, higher-output fans used in centralised ducted systems, making decentralised solutions like the e²60 particularly well suited to noise-sensitive environments.

Maximum Noise Protection

Thanks to its intelligent internal design and acoustic baffling, the e²60 achieves a maximum sound attenuation of up to 67 dB. This allows the unit to be used effectively in locations exposed to high external noise levels, including demanding environments such as buildings near airports.

Efficiency

Thanks to its extremely low power consumption, the e²60 delivers outstanding energy efficiency, making an active contribution to reducing environmental impact. High-efficiency EC motor technology enables precise airflow control with minimal electrical demand, while the ductless design results in inherently low pressure losses. This allows the system to operate with smaller, lower-power fans, further improving overall efficiency compared to conventional ducted ventilation systems.

Heat Recovery and Control Technology

The key component of the e²60 is the pbD heat accumulator core. This high-performance heat exchanger delivers heat recovery efficiencies of up to 90% (83% in accordance with EN 13141-8 at 40 m³/h).

An integrated Smart Comfort Control system ensures precise interaction between all components. Built-in humidity and temperature sensors enable fully automatic operation, providing efficient, demand-controlled ventilation while helping to protect the building from excess moisture.

Flexible Installation

The e²60 requires a minimum wall thickness of 200 mm for installation. A single controller can be used to manage between one and twelve e²60 units, allowing flexible system configuration.

A single e²60 unit, referred to as an e²60 Mono, can be used to ventilate smaller spaces. In this configuration, the EC motor-driven fan automatically reverses direction, alternating between supply and extract to provide push–pull ventilation with heat recovery.

Two e²60 units can also be installed as a paired system, known as an e²60 Duo. In this arrangement, one unit supplies fresh air while the other extracts stale air. The two units operate in synchronisation, reversing as required to maintain efficient and balanced heat recovery.

Up to six e²60 Duo pairs can be controlled from a single controller, enabling scalable ventilation solutions for larger homes or multiple rooms.

Other Benefits

Retrofit Ready

With no complex ducting runs required, decentralised systems are quick and straightforward to install, making them ideal for retrofit applications.

Compact Design

Decentralised systems are an excellent solution where building layouts do not allow space for a large centralised ventilation unit.

Versatility

Individual units can be installed exactly where ventilation is needed, even in areas where ducting cannot practically be routed.

Redundancy

Because each unit operates independently, the system continues to function even if one unit is offline, ensuring ongoing ventilation and resilience.
