DVS EC Reclaim Connect MVHR Systems

Balanced Heat Recovery Ventilation Systems with Automated Temperature, Humidity and CO2 Control

The DVS EC Reclaim Connect is a balanced pressure ventilation system. With the increase in design of airtight dwellings in Australia there is a greater focus on balanced ventilation and heat recovery.

If you’re looking for ways to create a healthier and more energy-efficient home, our ultimate balanced pressure heat recovery ventilation system is the perfect ventilation solution for your home. The heat exchanger reclaims energy produced by the exhausted stale air, and redistributes it into your home. This means that less heating is required to keep your home warm, which equates to big savings – both to your power bill and the environment.

Mechanical ventilation is essential to manage internal moisture in airtight buildings. For this reason balanced pressure heat recovery ventilation systems like the DVS EC Reclaim Connect are perfect for modern homes.

How Does it Work?

The DVS EC Reclaim Connect is located in your roof space (or a cupboard in your home) and uses two German-made energy-efficient EC fans ⑥. One fan will effortlessly and quietly extract the damp, stale air out of your home ①. As the DVS extracts the stale air, the heat exchanger reclaims energy from it (usually generated by activities such as cooking, showering and paid for heating) before exhausting it outside.

The second fan draws a constant supply of filtered, fresh, outdoor air into your home ③. The energy recovered by the heat exchanger is transferred to this incoming fresh air, warming or cooling it before it is delivered to your home ②. The state-of-the-art European counterflow heat exchanger will operate at up to 98% efficiency without mixing the stale and fresh airstreams ④.

Because the recovered energy is re-used in the home, less heating is required to keep your home at the desired temperature when ventilating your home. That equates to big savings – both to your power bill and the environment.

When warm air is available in the roof space, the DVS EC Reclaim Connect (when fitted with an optional Solar Gain Roof Intake) can use this free heat by passing it through the heat exchanger without roof space air being supplied to the home ⑤. This is achieved by opening the roof space bypass to allow the roof space air to mix with the extracted exhaust air from your home and pass through the heat exchanger helping to pre-warm the incoming fresh air.

To increase the effectiveness of your system during summer, an Automatic Summer Bypass can be fitted to allow the incoming fresh air to bypass the heat exchanger when the outside air is cooler than your home.

Premium Components

Heat Exchanger

The DVS EC Reclaim Connect state-of-the-art Recair Sensitive heat exchanger reclaims up to 98% of the energy that passes through it, which means very little energy escapes.

EC Motors

The DVS EC Reclaim Connect uses two German-made energy-efficient EC fans. The ebm-papst R3G220 EC motors are class-leading centrifugal fans.

Humidity Sensing

The humidity sensitive control function constantly monitors humidity levels inside your home and in the air supply. Automatically adjusting to ensure that only air which will keep your house healthier and drier is introduced.

Carbon Dioxide CO2 Sensing

Closed windows trap air filled with contaminants and carbon dioxide that cause discomfort, fatigue, and lack of focus and can make your in-home climate unhealthy.

The DVS EC Connect range constantly monitors carbon dioxide levels. When the carbon dioxide reaches an unhealthy level, the system automatically increases the level of fresh air being introduced into your home. This minimises any risk brought on by having too much carbon dioxide in your air, and is also great for getting a good and refreshing night’s sleep.

The CO2 sensors are a remote wireless device and can be positioned in up to four places in your home.

Wi-Fi Controller with Custom Logic

The controller offers personal control of your home environment, all through an easy, simple to use interface. Your system will be configured for you, and the airflow and settings individually calibrated to the size of your home to run automatically. However, you are able to easily adjust the system functions or fine tune the fan speed to better suit your needs or use the Fan Boost option for clearing the house of extra moisture or smells.

The EC Connect controllers are Wi-Fi capable and can be connected to your home internet. This allows you to download any software updates DVS make available when they are improving their systems.

Custom Logic

The core system includes temperature and humidity sensors in each fan and the control panel. The master fan includes ports for four additional external temperature/humidity sensors, four automated dampers, additional fans, and a 240v 2000W relay. The slave fan and control panel each include ports for an additional external temperature/humidity sensor.

Custom Logic is included in the control panel and allows near endless customisation to suit your specific needs and the intricacies of your home. The logic can draw data from any of the above sensors to perform certain actions when conditions are met. Custom logic is built using if this then that 'IFTTT' principles.

Optional Addons

DVS Automatic Summer Bypass Addon

To increase the effectiveness of your system during summer, an Automatic Summer Bypass can be fitted to allow the incoming fresh air to bypass the heat exchanger when the outside air is cooler than your home. This component can be automatically or manually controlled.

The DVS EC Connect home ventilation system continually measures the temperatures in your home (at the control panel), in the roof space and at the outside vent. Then, depending on how you have chosen to have your system set up, the DVS will stop passing incoming air through the heat exchanger and instead bypass it to prevent the incoming air from being warmed by the outgoing air.

DVS Solar Gain Roof Intake Addon

To make the most of the solar gain in your roof space, a bypass enables the additional warmth to be transferred into the incoming fresh airflow. This is achieved by opening the roof space bypass to allow the roof space air to mix with the extracted exhaust air from your home and pass through the heat exchanger helping to pre-warm the incoming fresh air. This component can be automatically or manually controlled.

DVS Air Filters

Two DVS air filters are installed with every DVS EC Reclaim Connect System:

  • DVS Standard Helix Wool Filter filters the outgoing air and protects the heat exchanger. Natural clean air technology made using New Zealand Wool. The MERV15 Helix filter is kinder to the environment and provides superior filtration. The patented Helix filter technology actively cleans the air to remove even the very small particles and airborne pollutants, which other filters may not remove. Resulting in cleaner air for you and your home.
  • DVS Hybrid Helix Carbon Filter filters the incoming air to your home. The hybrid filter includes an added layer of charcoal that is perfect for reducing odours that come from surrounding environments before entering the home.
Benefits of Helix Filter Technology
  • Class-leading particle capture performance: harmful particles are captured via the exceptional electrostatic capabilities of Helix MERV15 filters. This same technology has been scientifically developed for industrial, medical and respiratory health sectors.
  • Extremely breathable and super easy air flow: the Helix filter matrix offers superb breathability and much lower air flow resistance supporting a lower energy usage whilst still ensuring high particle removal.
  • Bacteria resistant: wool fibres within Helix filters naturally resist and reduce the growth of bacteria and microbes on the fibre surface.
  • Natural way to reduce toxins: natural wool fibres within Helix filters have an affinity for toxic vapours, safely and permanently eliminating them from the air.
  • Safer against fire: natural wool fibres within Helix filters increase the flame retardancy, ensuring a safer filter in a compromised environment.
  • Eco-friendly and sustainable: Helix filters all contain naturally biodegradable wool fibres making it more environmentally sustainable and better for our planet.
Changing the Filters

The filters are user replaceable and need to be replaced every 12 to 18 months. The cost of replacement filters is $248 (including GST and delivery).

Benefits and Ease of Retrofit

Ease of Retrofit

The DVS EC Reclaim Connect is designed in New Zealand specifically for Australian and New Zealand homes. DVS have realised that in most retrofit applications, the system can't be installed within the thermal envelope of the home. For this reason the system has been designed from the ground up to be installed in a typical roof cavity or subfloor space. The system uses Australian made insulated flexible ducting, allowing it to be installed outside the thermal envelope of the home.

Performance

Since the unit doesn't have to fit within a laundry cupboard and ducting doesn't have to fit within 90mm wall cavities, larger components can be used.

A larger heat exchanger means more surface area. More surface area means higher efficiency (up to 98%) or alternatively higher airflow with similar efficiency to competing systems.

Larger fan motors mean higher airflow and better performance against static pressure. Higher airflow means the system performs better in 'leaky' Australian homes. Better performance against static pressure means more efficient filtration can be used, with MERV15 filters standard where competing systems are using M5 filters.

Ease of Install

The DVS EC Reclaim Connect uses flexible duct and standard duct fittings that are held together with tape. This allows for a far simpler installation than semi-rigid piping and distribution boxes. We have supplied numerous Reclaim 'DIY kits' to homeowners out of our service area and the feedback has been resoundingly positive - any issues the homeowners' were experiencing (such as condensation, poor indoor air quality and VOC odours) have been completely resolved!

A DVS EC Reclaim Connect can typically be installed by an experienced installation team in one day whereas systems with semi-rigid piping and distribution boxes require multiple visits and commissioning.

Price

A DVS EC Reclaim Connect installation is typically half the price of an installation for a system designed to be within the thermal envelope of the home. This price difference is even greater when you factor in additional insulation work required to thermally protect the uninsulated components of a system designed to be within the thermal envelope.

Quiet Operation

With components being installed in a roof cavity or subfloor space, there are no noisy fan motors inside the home. Additionally, the ultra premium EC centrifugal fan motors by ebm-papst are virtually silent even when standing next to them.

Suitability

The ease of installation, suitability for retrofit, higher airflow and better filtration means that the DVS EC Reclaim Connect is suitable for any home that has a space to install it.

Software

The core system includes temperature and humidity sensors in each fan and the control panel. The master fan includes ports for four additional external temperature/humidity sensors, four automated dampers, additional fans, and a 240v 2000W relay. The slave fan and control panel each include ports for an additional external temperature/humidity sensor.

Custom Logic is included in the control panel and allows near endless customisation to suit your specific needs and the intricacies of your home. The logic can draw data from any of the above sensors to perform certain actions when conditions are met. Custom logic is built using if this then that 'IFTTT' principles.

Wi-Fi connectivity means that software updates are performed automatically and new features can be added.

Closed Loop Fan Control

Unlike other systems that set a fan speed on initial set up but then don't know what's actually happening, the DVS EC Reclaim Connect is reading the RPM of each fan motor constantly. This is because the pressure in your house is not constant - it's affected every time you open and close doors and windows for example. By monitoring the RPM of the fan motors, the system can drive each fan harder if the pressure inside builds up (or back them off if it decreases) to ensure proper airflow is maintained.

Warranty

DVS know their product works and that their components are premium. That's why they back it with a 5 year on-site warranty. Competing ventilation systems that are twice the price only offer a 2 year warranty. We have tried (to no avail) to offer a standard 5 year warranty on all our products, but our requests have so far fallen on deaf ears.
