What Makes Fresh Ventilation Different

Fresh Ventilation is a family owned and operated business. Our main business has specialised in the installation of premium quality ventilation systems for over 10 years. Our heat transfer kits use the same premium components we install in our business on a daily basis.

Effective heat transfer systems require quality components and proper installation. Given that no two homes are the same, there is no one-size-fits-all solution to heat transfer systems. This is why we place a strong emphasis on customised solutions and after-sales support to help you with installing your system.

All of our kits include:

  • One-on-one conversations to help us understand your home, your heat source, and what you are after, so that we can recommend the best product for your needs.
  • One-on-one telephone and/or FaceTime conversations to help you with installing your system.

Why Premium Components Matter

Almost all heat transfer systems use poor quality fans and thinly insulated duct. This leads many people to believe that heat transfer systems do not work.

When a heat transfer system is installed properly, this could not be further from the truth.

Fans

  • Our 200mm EC motor centrifugal fan transfers up to 1,015 m³ of air per hour. This is a large volume of air compared to some fans which only transfer 223 m³ of air per hour. Destination rooms are often very cold. When only a small amount of heat can be transferred, it is unlikely to make a difference.
  • Our EC motor centrifugal fans are infinitely speed controllable. The fan speed is directly proportional to the size of the adjustment you make on the speed controller. Many fans are only single speed. Every heat source is different and every house is different. Precise speed adjustment allows a heat transfer system to be matched to its surroundings. Speed adjustment allows a heat transfer system to move a small amount of air at times when the heat source is not operating.
  • Our 200mm EC motor centrifugal fan makes only 39dBA noise at 50% fan speed. This is very quiet compared to some single speed fans which make 51dBA noise when operating. Heat transfer systems work best when they are operating all the time. This means they are often operating at night. A quiet fan with controllable air flow is less likely to disturb your sleep.
  • Our 200mm EC motor centrifugal fan uses only 22 W at 50% fan speed but still transfers 650 m³ of air per hour. This is very energy efficient compared to some single speed fans which use 193 W when operating. Heat transfer systems work best when they are operating all the time. An energy efficient fan will save a lot of money over the long life of the system.
  • Our EC motor centrifugal fans can operate in temperatures up to 60°C and are rated to 80°C when not in use. This is a high operating temperature compared to some fans which have a maximum air temperature of 45°C. The purpose of a heat transfer system is to transfer hot air. Heat transfer systems are often installed in roof cavities which are hot during the day in summer.

Duct

  • Green Duct is available insulated to Rm1.5 surrounded by 90mm of insulation. This is 150% more thermally efficient than duct insulated to Rm0.6 surrounded by 40mm of insulation. High quality insulated duct is essential for minimising heat loss if you want your heat transfer system to work well.
  • Green Duct's inner core has a steel rib for strength and is not prone to glue failure. This is much stronger than cheaper duct that is prone to collapsing and tearing. Insulated duct is often mistreated by people moving through a roof space. High quality insulated duct will last a long time and is more likely to withstand poor treatment.

About Heat Transfer Systems

Rooms that get more sun or have a heat source are generally warmer than those without. With a heat transfer system however, you can ensure other rooms in your home are as warm and cosy as your sunlit lounge.

Heat transfer systems balance the temperature in your home by evenly distributing energy from a heat source, such as a fireplace or heater, throughout your home.

We can arrange a standalone heat transfer system to suit any price point. Our heat transfer systems use components that have been carefully selected for their purpose. We use only the best components to ensure that you get superior performance, proven reliability and lower operating costs. We have a range of Australian made duct options and offer German made centrifugal fans with both AC and EC motors.

AC Motors vs EC Motors

AC motors are cheaper than EC motors but still provide excellent performance. They are very quiet during operation and move large volumes of air through ducting. They operate at one fixed speed where they are most efficient. 

In real world use, EC motors provide even higher air flow, are extremely quiet during operation, are capable of silent operation at reduced fan speeds, have smoother fan rotation, and consume almost no power at reduced fan speeds. EC motors have adjustable speed and are very efficient at all speeds.

AC Motor Centrifugal Fans

Our 150mm AC motor centrifugal fans have the following qualities:

Standard Insulated Duct vs Green Insulated Duct

High quality insulated duct is essential for minimising heat loss if you want your heat transfer system to work well. Despite this, almost all heat transfer systems use poor quality and poorly insulated duct, which leads many people to believe that heat transfer systems do not work.

Fresh Ventilation conducted the following experiment in the Southern Highlands. The incoming air from the heat source was 32°C, the air in the roof space where duct was located was 5°C, and the transfer length was 18 metres. The air temperature was then measured at the destination. The air exiting from uninsulated duct was 16°C, a loss of 16°C. The air exiting from Rm0.6 standard insulated duct was 21°C, a loss of 11°C. The air exiting from Rm1.5 green insulated duct was 31°C, a loss of only 1°C.

Worth the effort

After placing an online order for a 4 room heat transfer system kit with R1.5 green ducts plus a few extra bits, staff from Fresh Ventilation were on the phone within the hour. Excellent customer service. Due to logistic challenges getting the kit from the warehouse to my cold climate rural property, I was kept up to date with many phone calls, yet the process was very professional and low stress. The kit arrived within a week ands installed soon after. The product is high quality and has made a huge difference in balancing the temperature between the rooms in my home. An added bonus is a significant reduction in condensation on windows in the mornings and hence less problems with mould/mildew build up. Using a FTIR camera I can happily report that there is a 1.5C temperature difference between the intake and the furthest outlet at the other end of the house. Overall performance is exceptional and beyond my expectations. I can highly recommend.

From first contact my partner and I were very impressed with the way Cam communicated with us and worked with us. He always had the time to talk and the patience to explain how the system could work with our home. Cam took the time draw up a plan showing where best to place the vents and explained why the placement was best and how we could save on conduit. The whole house is now comfortable during Winter

My husband and I installed a DIY 4 room DVS Heat Transfer kit from Fresh Ventilation and we couldn't have chosen a better product or better company!

We built our home in South Gippsland, Victoria in early 2019 and had a woodfire as our only heat source. Our home is one level but split into zones and the heat in the living room never made it to the bedrooms. To take the chill off the air, all of the bedrooms had oil heaters which weren't that energy efficient. After a bit of research I stumbled upon the DVS Heat Transfer Kit and Fresh Ventilation and felt the system could be a really cost effective way to heat the bedrooms.

From initial contact, Cameron was so helpful with any questions and customised a plan to suit our house and requirements. Even though install took us most of a day (total rookies and with 2 kids under 2) he took calls during the day (and evening) to assist with the process. We have quite a complex roof truss system which meant we were a bit short of ducting but were able to join together two pieces with Cameron's help via a quick impromptu YouTube tutorial he filmed.

The DVS Heat Transfer kit is a plug and play product so anyone can DIY without the need for an electrician. The fan plugs straight into a powerpoint and the control panel is nice and easy to use which also connects to the fan via an ethernet cable. So simple!! The fan is also extreamly energy efficient meaning we can run it fully off our 6.6kW solar system during a Winter's day in Victoria.

We can already see a huge difference in energy usage now that the oil heaters are off and the rooms are sitting at a comfortable 18-22 degrees. We've been able to monitor our usage and it's already 1/3rd of what it would usually be on a Winter's day.

It's been a week of monitoring our electricity usage via our PowerPal. After my daughter mentioned she was waking up cold during the night, we looked at a cost-effective solution to heat the kids bedrooms. Looking around online we landed on the DVS heat transfer Kit from Fresh Ventilation.

Our only heat source in our home is a fireplace which burns 24/7 in winter. This was heating our living/ kitchen and dining room well but not the other end of the house until now.

We initially had a few concerns about the effectiveness of a heat transfer system as it needed to pipe warm air from the living room to the bedrooms – the furthest being about 24m away but after installing this system we find it heats two bedrooms really effectively.

We were also a little concerned about drawing all the hot air out of the living room to heat the bedrooms, however, the supplied flat diffusers only draw air from the upper part of the ceiling which has little impact on the overall room temperature in the living room.

The system has been operational for over a week now and the kid's bedrooms are kept warm during the day and night even when it is almost snowing outside!

The DVS system we installed has a nice digital display and is powered via an Ethernet cable that connects directly to the fan. This made installing the display fairly easy – no electrician required. The display shows the room temperature and the temperature of the air being drawn through the ducts. When our fireplace is burning well the temperature in the ducts sits around 24 degrees.

Purchasing a customised solution was painless. We sent through a plan of our home and received a custom quote to service 5 outlets. Although it is not recommended to heat 5 rooms at once, we wanted the option to heat different spaces as our needs changed over time.

Our customer service experience was fantastic from start to finish. They even answered calls on the weekend when we rang during the DIY installing of the system.

The kids are now kept warm at night and are sleeping through without waking up cold.

If anyone who has a fire place is looking to heat additional rooms in their house I recommend using the DVS heat transfer kits combined with the high quality insulated duct green from Fresh Ventilation.

Best money we’ve ever spent

We had Cam and his team install a heat transfer unit in our house in the Southern Highlands. Before doing so our wood fire was efficient at heating the back end of the house but we struggled to warm the front end of the house and sometimes the back part would be too hot because we couldn’t distribute the heat. Since installing the unit the warmth heats the whole house and we no longer wake up with condensation on the windows. Before the heat transfer unit we also had trouble with mildew on the walls in one part of the house but not anymore.

The fan runs 24/7 during the colder months when our fire is on and I’ve not noticed any change in our electricity bill because of it.

It truly is some of the best money we’ve ever spent and my only regret is that we didn’t do it sooner.
