Stainless Steel Hood Vents

Marine Grade Stainless Steel Hooded Vent with BAL-40 Bush Fire Rated Cinder Mesh Insert

The HVSS are ideal for wall or gable mounted ventilation. The hood features an internal gravity flap allowing air to be expelled, whilst stopping cold air and pests entering the system. The gravity flap and cinder mesh can be removed.

The Hood is made from quality 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel. The Hood also complies with BAL-40 bush fire rating as the vent is supplied with a cinder mesh insert.

Product Features

  • 316 Marine Grade stainless steel.
  • Complies with Bush Fire Attack Level 40 (BAL-40) when used with supplied cinder mesh insert.
  • Can be BAL-FZ compliant when installed using the correct sealant (see below).
  • Cinder mesh insert can be removed.
  • Angle design protects from snow and heavy rain.
  • Gravity flap included to prevent cold air from entering the system.
  • Designed for exhaust air applications, but can be used for supply air applications if the gravity flap is removed.
  • Screws included.
  • Contains Molybdenum, a metallic element used to toughen steel and increase resistance to oxidation/corrosion in marine areas.

BAL-FZ Compliance

Our BAL-40 stainless steel vents are compliant with BAL-FZ when installed correctly in accordance with the BAL-FZ standards.

Click Here to download the construction requirements for BAL-FZ under Standards Australia AS3529:2018.

The relevant sections are:

  • 9.4.3
  • 9.6.1
  • 9.6.5
  • 9.6.6

The essential requirement for compliance is found in 9.6.5. To be compliant a sealant must be used when installing the vents to prevent gaps. The sealant used "shall be sealed with mineral fibre at the roof to prevent gaps. The material used to seal the penetration shall be non-combustible."

Airflow Through Bush Fire Cinder Mesh

These vents include removable cinder mesh inserts with 2mm openings.

To be BAL-40 compliant, this cinder mesh insert must be installed. Please note that some pressure loss will occur from the added resistance caused by the cinder mesh, which may cause a reduction in airflow. We recommend a high quality centrifugal fan with a strong pressure curve, such as our AC and EC motor centrifugal fans, to minimise this pressure loss.

If you are not in a bush fire prone area, this cinder mesh can be removed, which will increase the airflow through the vent.
